“I believe that the issue of the Barbados agreement has been made very clear to everyone, inside and outside the country. The regime has violated everything it had to do, it has failed to comply with everything it had committed to do, it has ramped up repression, it has imprisoned people, it has persecuted, it has banned, everything they said they would not do, while the other parties have complied with their (commitment), including me. So, this is a problem at this moment of the regime which is the one who has not complied. We are going ahead, because they are not going to take us out of the electoral route. They told me that, do you want abstention? How can we want abstention if we are 80-20 (up in polls)? Who is the one who wants abstention? When you are 80-20, what do you want, to leave? So, for the love of God, do not come to me with this story and this blackmail, they are the ones who want abstention and division.”

“You have seen various U.S. administration spokespersons saying things. Some said in October and November: ‘You have these many days left or so.’ We have always told them that we do not tolerate ultimatums and will never do. What we signed we have complied with. This is the memorandum on migration and here is the memorandum on political and electoral issues regarding Venezuela.”

STORYLINE:
Venezuelan Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado vowed to continue her election bid during a rally on Wednesday.
After greeting and speaking to hundreds of supporters Machado, reaffirmed that the opposition bloc she leads remains committed to participating in the upcoming presidential elections on July 28.
The rally came after the Biden administration’s reimposed crushing oil sanctions on Venezuela, just six months after the U.S. eased restrictions in a bid to support now fading hopes for a democratic opening in the OPEC nation.
In October, the U.S. granted President Nicolás Maduro’s government relief from sanctions on its state-run oil, gas and mining sectors after it agreed to work with members of the opposition to hold a free and competitive presidential election this year.
While Maduro went on to schedule an election for July and invite international observers to monitor voting, his inner circle has used the ruling party’s total control over Venezuela’s institutions to undermine the agreement.
Actions include blocking his main rival, Machado, from registering her candidacy or that of a designated alternative.
Numerous government critics have also been jailed over the past six months, including several of Machado’s aides.
“The regime has violated everything it had to do, it has failed to comply with everything it had committed to do, it has ramped up repression, it has imprisoned people, it has persecuted,” Machado told reporters after the rally.
