Russian Ambassador Sergei Netschajew and Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Manuela Schwesig visited the Nord Stream 2 site in Lubmin, on Thursday.
During their visit Schwesig reasserted her state’s support for the completion of the pipeline, detailing that already 1000 kilometres of pipeline have been completed with only a few kilometres to go.
She stressed, “We reject the American sanctions against companies, especially against companies in our own country, this project, regardless of how you feel about the gas pipeline or about Russia, this project is legally approved.”
Netschajew added he believed that the speculation on the project in the press is from foreign politicians who would like to deliver other energy sources to Germany.

SOT, Sergei Netschajew, Russian Ambassador (German): “Of course there is a lot of speculation in the press, particularly from some foreign politicians with questions about the project, how should it go on, so I assume that the speculation is from an area of unconscientious competition some countries would like to deliver other, shall we say, energy sources to Germany.”
SOT, Manuela Schwesig, Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (German): “We have over 1000 kilometres finished, only a few kilometres are left, it is important to complete this gas pipeline, the state government supports this project, that was always so in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and will remain so.”
SOT, Manuela Schwesig, Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (German): “We reject the American sanctions against companies, especially against companies in our own country, this project, regardless of how you feel about the gas pipeline or about Russia, this project is legally approved, and constitutionally approved projects must also be implemented in Germany.”
