Price of Bitcoin surpasses $100k for first time | BBC News

The price of Bitcoin has for the first time broken past the $100,000 mark, hitting a new record high.

The value of the world’s biggest cryptocurrency has been boosted by hopes US President-elect Donald Trump will adopt crypto-friendly policies.

The milestone was reached hours after Trump said he would nominate former Securities and Exchange Commission commissioner Paul Atkins to run the Wall Street regulator.

Atkins is seen as being far more pro-cryptocurrency than the current head of the SEC, Gary Gensler.

    1. This is absolutely shocking analysis by Carol and for the BBC to air this is even worse. As a British Bitcoin podcaster and someone who ran the UK's first major Bitcoin conference, I would be happy to come on and give a counterargument to Carol's highly uneducated view of Bitcoin and crypto.

    5. Watch and laugh as the legacy media bring on boomers that fail to understand the global financial revolution taking place before them. Calling Satoshi's white paper 'A toy example' is disgusting misinformation. It's an amazing technological advance and Satoshi may have saved our species from the brink of destruction. Buy and Hold. The bitcoin network is only growing larger and more secure. There's more hashrate, more nodes than ever before. The programmers understood, the technlogists joined, the people joined, the banks joined and now the government have joined. Satoshi's idea , their vision is becoming a reality, it is gaining mass adoption. The 7th biggest asset class in the world with 2 trillion market cap! It's a fantastic store of value. Long live bitcoin, Vires In Numeris!

    8. I really do not understand this. You are BBC and you are not able to find someone who actually knows what he is talking about?
No wonder people are moving to alternative media.
