PRICE PREDICTIONS
$10,000? $19,842? $100,000?? There are a myriad of different price targets out there for ethereum. The reality of the situation is that nobody knows exactly where it’s headed. With that said though, I do think that there are a lot of strong arguments as to why ethereum will continue to grow and for its market cap to potentially pass that of bitcoin’s at some point in the future.
ETHEREUM VS BITCOIN
When I explain ethereum to someone for the first time, I usually say that it’s like the internet. The internet is essentially the foundation for all kinds of applications and websites to be built on it. Ethereum is very similar in that people can build decentralized applications that run on the blockchain network. This means that ethereum has a lot more utility and real use cases than bitcoin.
RISKS AND PROBLEMS
The biggest things to keep in mind are that the ethereum network is still far from being fully developed and like every other crypto out there, it does have some issues and shortcomings. Fortunately there are plans of addressing these issues with various upgrades in the future. For instance, EIP 1559 is coming this year and Ethereum 2.0, which is bringing a proof-of-stake protocol instead of proof-of-work, is likely coming in 2022. These will be significant updates and there’s always the risk of things not panning out how everyone is expecting.
