Our lead story today is oil. We start off with Scotland, where we have seen a surge in voter support for Scottish independence from the UK. Now, the UK’s two largest oil producers are weighing in on the Scottish referendum campaign. Erin Ade takes a look.

Then, Erin is joined by Janet Tavakoli, founder and president of Tavakoli Structured Finance, to talk about derivatives and structured products. Tavakoli explains how dangerous the derivatives has become and why ordinary people should care.

After the break, Erin speaks with Marin Katusa, chief energy investment strategist at Casey Research, to discuss oil and alternative energy. Katusa is bullish on oil over the medium-term and sees natural gas prices in Europe staying much higher than in the US until liquefied natural gas can come online.

And in The Big Deal, Erin and Edward Harrison discuss the Japanese economy and what factors may have led to its decline. Factors include a recent consumption tax as well as the costs associated with nuclear energy in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe.
