In the span of a decade, the United States has emerged as the world’s third-largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplier, behind only Australia and Qatar. The U.S. LNG industry continues to grow as projects complete construction and others move along the development pipeline. Yet the role of gas in the energy transition has come under scrutiny given increased calls for the world’s major economies to reduce their emissions to net-zero by 2050.
What is the role of gas in such a world, and what does this new environment mean for U.S. LNG? Charif Souki will discuss the state of the industry and the role U.S. LNG can play in the global energy transition.
This discussion with Mr. Souki will be moderated by Nikos Tsafos, James R. Schlesinger Chair for Energy and Geopolitics at CSIS. Joseph Majkut, Director of the CSIS Energy Security & Climate Change Program, will provide a welcome and introduction.
