Child exploitation uncovered in illegal mines in South Africa | BBC News

Warning: This story contains details that some people may find distressing.

A BBC investigation has uncovered evidence that children as young as 15 are being trafficked into illegal mines and sexually abused across South Africa.

Several eye witnesses have described repeated instances of sexual abuse of children in at least three illegal mines.

South Africa’s illegal mining industry made global headlines last year following a standoff between police and miners at the Buffelsfontein gold mine in the North West Province.

      itโ€™s one of those

    2. Mind you legally enforced care homes in the UK are doing the same thing, but yeah, letโ€™s worry about South Africa๐Ÿ˜…

    3. Mind Begs the Question:
โ–ช๏ธŽPharoah slaughtered Children labeling them – Future Threat
โ–ช๏ธŽIf a Semitic-State slaughter Children labeling them – Future Terrorists
      โ–ช๏ธŽJewish-State or Pharonic-State?

    4. Not that it matters or makes matter better, they are not South Africans but illegal immigrants from neighbouring countries. A sad situation overall, no silver lining here at all.

    5. Yet these are not the people who were offered asylum here in the US from South Africa, who are thought of as needy and persecuted enough to warrant special consideration and different home.

    6. No mention of a government task force to identify the mechanisms by which and those at the top responsible for trafficking these children into multiple forms of abuse and neglect? The government needs to be held accountable on this. Deplorable.

    7. Propaganda, this just the way for the west to attack afric. It's funny how this came out after trump said through genocide in south africa. Why is the british company even in south africa. I don't believe the west media propaganda. This is completely fake news, just like all the news that trump and his affiliates put out

    8. America and israel they are only ones who benefiting from SAn mine,, so even abandoned mine owned by the them with cheap labour from Zimbabwe Nigerian Malawi Lesotho….. I wish one day American people wake up and what trump and Musk is not humanity in SA

    9. any investigation done for pakistani grooming gangs in UK ? It can also be distressing, clean your house before impressing streets !!

    10. No this must be the white farmers fault or Apartheid wait colonialism for sure! Socialism and communism can not be blamed for this in any shape way or form. Wonder if the ANC has a hand in this?

    11. These are not legal mines and many of the perpetrators (and victims unfortunately) are illegal immigrants in South Africa, which seems to have lost its battle with illegal immigration…

    12. The BBC asked for a response for police and law enforcement in South Africa. Do t expect anything to be done. Those people might be refugees if you think about it. South Africa wonโ€™t protect those children. They donโ€™t protect their own citizens.

    13. First of all the narrative here is wrong, those are illegal miners(most of them illegal immigrates) that illegally entered the mine and the cops tried flushing them out of the mine but most of them decided to stay and some died. Other eventually got out of the mine and got arrested

    14. Oh so NOW you start giving a dam. Only after Trump put a spot light on ONE of the issues in South Africa. This story is unfortunately old news, itโ€™s been going on for years.

    15. Very sad!…The government of SA denying the miners basic essentials like water food and drugs to force them out of the mines is a crime against humanity!…How do minors work in the mines without the knowledge of the state?…. There's more than meet the eyes here!
