President Trump on Thursday threatened to limit imports of products from foreign countries if they don't work with pharmaceutical companies to pay more for drugs as a way to lower the costs for medicines in the United States.

Earlier this month, the president signed an Executive Order tying the prices of prescription drugs in the U.S. to what they cost in other countries under a program dubbed "Most Favored Nation."

If countries fight against drugmakers, "That's ok. We are not going to let you send any more cars into the United States," Trump said at a White House event for the release of the Make America Healthy Again report.

"Or we're not going to let you sell more wine or liquor or alcohol, or something that's actually much more important to them than the drugs. And we're going to be able to force that issue if we need to."

In his remarks, Trump predicted that Americans would save as much as 80% on prescription drugs compared to what they pay now with the Most Favored Nation program.

He also contended the MFN wouldn't impact pharmaceutical companies' bottom lines. "There shouldn't be a hit on their stock," adding that their income source will be "redistributed…so [other countries are] going to pay a little more, and we're going to pay a lot less."

So he thinks that the EU will agree to pay more for medicine in order to sponsor the USA deficit. After his defeat with China, I see no chance for the EU to agree. Need to get ready for another s..t show in next 30 days.

Honestly, this doesn’t seem unreasonable. These pharma companies have been overcharging Americans for very long. Of course the argument could be “Americans should negotiate and pay less as well”, but without a certain amount of revenue pharma companies may not be able to invest as much is developing new drugs.

    4. No, but this is truly outrageous: how can you tell another state how much it should pay for the things it buys for its own damn business?

Lol, you just fucking knew this was going to be the direction when they were talking about “how much more Americans pay for pharma than the rest of the world.” Instead of getting the US to pay *less*, their target is getting everyone to pay *more*.

What a bunch of fucking clowns. Other countries would fucking cut out US imports/exports entirely rather than take this deal.

    6. Lemme get this right:

This guy wants to leverage imports, as a means to jack up drug prices outside the US so the US citizens pay less for the same drugs?

So basically giving the entire pharma industry in the US a kick in the balls because why would you pay more for drugs that other countries could provide for the same price… What a deal.

    7. Yes. The US or DJT can definitely do this (as the title said). But I want to say that every country could do this in the past, except the US. Old America is gone.
