What are very good staples you live by to keep on handle that will save a penny? Whether a bulk size or not. Love to keep home smelling clean , cutting down on love of candles.

in hot climate with bouts of humidity but not constant.

Do not own much furniture yet, but would love also ideas to maintain a mattress for very long life.

Probably the most frugal thing I do is I buy sponges & brillo pads and cut them in thirds. I use to feel guilty about throwing out whole sponges, so they’d get kinda gross. Now I toss the thirds out frequently and always have a nice fresh one, but go through the package even slower than I use to.

    2. Vinegar. Mix it with water and put in a spray bottle. Amazing for cleaning the kitchen counters and super cheap compared to actual degreasing sprays.

Borax. I add a couple of tablespoons to the water when I’m hand washing dishes (or colorfast clothes.) Sometimes I soak my sponges in boiling water with a little borax and it gets all of the crud out of them. My sponges and scrubbers never smell. If you’re in the USA, you can find borax in Home Depot for less than even online retailers. If your skin is sensitive, use gloves. Never get it in your eyes or breathe it in. Dissolve it in the water well before adding to your laundry. I accidentally tossed some into the washing machine without dissolving it and I ruined some clothes that weren’t colorfast.

    4. Don’t overthink this. Hot soapy water is great

Never throw away a towel or rag. Just move them into a different role (kitchen, living room, bathroom, then garage).

Dollar store cleaning supplies. That LA Awesome stuff is great, just be sure to dilute.

      Vinegar + hot water

Pine cleaner. Pine Sol is expensive, but the generic versions are not. Nothing says clean like the smell of Pine cleaner.

    6. Two staples for me are Dawn dishwashing liquid and Simple Green. Both can be diluted heavily and used in spray bottles for so many things, both inside and out of the house. Simple Green is a safe degreaser and light cleaner.
