So I do realize to an extent it’s just right before Apple season – but they’re still so expensive!

It’s been one of our go to cheaper fruits year round to keep the fruit basket full, and currently it’s starting to get harder and harder to keep fruits in stock.

I usually aim for produce over processed foods especially for snacks, but that part of my grocery bill is starting to make me cringe lately.

I live in the Southern USA

What’s up with apples prices right now?

No difference in apple prices where I am in Canada…. could it be that they’re imported and subject to tarrifs if you’re in the US?

Where are you buying them? I just bought a bunch of cosmos from Costco and they were reasonably cheap. They are also very, very sweet.

    3. Supposedly cosmic crisps were bred for a one year shelf life. So, in theory they are specifically bred for the purpose of buying in bulk and storing.

I cant recommend because it could just be marketing, but if so you could maybe save money bulk buying apples.

Last year there was an apple surplus. This year I’m guessing all the migrant workers are either in Alligator Auschwitz or are laying low so the gestapo don’t grab them. Between that and the tariffs, expect all fruit and produce prices to skyrocket.

I noticed this in the last month as all prices are skyrocketing.. I used to buy apples by the pound but now I buy them prebagged. One thing I do is weigh the bag that is supposed to be 3 pounds for $4.99. Almost always it’s a little over 3 pounds. Not much of a victory. I eat one apple every day, sometimes two, and following that suggestion has not really kept the doctor away, lol.

Me, reading this, thinking you’re talking about the company, Apple.. or even the stock price lol.

Well, we’re probably entering a severe recession or depression here in the US, so…

Trump’s taxes (tariffs) are one of the reasons as apples this time of year are coming either from South America or New Zealand. The North American apple crop is just starting to harvest with Gala apples coming to market from California. But, the bigger issue is inflation. All the cost for farmers have gone up (All those deportations are the people that picked fruit) and as a result produce prices are up nearly 40% across the board.

    9. I see them as high as +$2.00 lb. I like variety so I purchase one or two each of different kinds. That’s about one a day and $12.00 a week. No idea what’s happening with prices and didn’t answer your question. Sorry.

    10. The apples prices in my area have not changed at all recently. There was a slight increase around the time of COVID, but since then, I don’t think that there has been any addition increases. At least for the specific types of apples that I purchase regularly.

    11. Krogers has 5 lbs of Pink Lady’s for $5 all day everyday.
Every other apple is $1-2 above what it was 3 months ago.

Apples have increased in price here, but about the same as other groceries, say 10-20 percent. My beef this year is that they seem to be even less ripe than usual. I hate hard, half ripe apples. Seems like growers are maybe rushing them to market?

I am thinking that you’re eating last year’s apples and that might have a lot to do with it.

Texas .99 cents large green my favorite 1.99 a pound at farmers market.20 cents cheaper. Only problem I see is Walmart Houston 7.99 a pound for hamburger meat

Sugarbee Apples are BOGO at Publix this week. I typically think the quality is lowest at this time of the year because the apples have been in storage since last season. The quality will increase and with the abundance of supply, the price should improve a bit.

    16. Apples aren’t in season just yet so anywhere you are getting them they are being imported. Meaning tariffs.

For basically any question of “Why is this product more expensive?!” the answer is almost always going to be tariffs.

Thank the GOP and conservatives who continue to vote for these shit bags for the lovely additional tax on all of our purchases.

In a week or two the first big harvests of apples domestically will start and apples will be heavily on sale.

      …..looks around the room……

Have you watched or read or heard ANY news this year?!

    18. I wish I knew what was happening. I was in NJ a few weeks ago, from Florida. Mangos were cheaper in NJ than in Fl.

Grocers set the price. Not the growers, etc. it’s the grocers. They can charge you up the wazoo and it doesn’t effect how much the growers get.
