So we live in a trailer, 2 bed 2 bath regular 1977 single wide with terrible insulation but no rent so not complaining. There’s no central heat or air so there’s three window units in the whole house. One in each bedroom and one in the kitchen which also produces heat. My question is, how am I supposed to use them for the best energy efficiency plus extending the life of the units? I usually run all three during the day on high and then turn two of them off and leave the one in the bedroom we sleep in on but use the energy saver+auto function. I’m reading about it and seeing different things so I’m wondering if I’m actually slowly killing my units whilst also wasting money. For reference, we’re usually gone for about 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, wake up at 6 A.M. and turn the other units on full blast to beat the heat (Central Arkansas, US) We leave a little before noon and get back home about 6:45-7:10 P.M. We have dogs and cats in the home so they need air too hence why I leave them on full blast while we’re gone. It’s my first time using window units instead of having central air so I don’t know what I’m doing. Thanks for your time guys 😅

Window A/c units, best way to use them?

    1. Use them when you need them. Keep them clean inside and outside and they’ll serve you well. Biggest 2 things that kills AC units is dirt and corrosion. Electronics can die as well but you don’t game much control over that.
