hi all! i (17f) got into a minor accident/what i would describe as a fender bender on friday afternoon. i was pulling out of a braums and was turning left, which required me to turn across a lane and into the turning lane to safely merge into the lane i needed to be in. i was sure to check if anyone was coming and in fact i even waited a minute for the heavy traffic to pass before i thought it was safe to turn. a red kia came out of nowhere and accelerated + swerved into the turning lane i was already halfway into, causing me to nick the back door of the car. we parked in a donut shop's lot and she was an elderly woman w/ a daughter or something that is a freshman at my school. i've never been in an accident before and this is only my 2nd month of driving with a license. so i got out, apologized, asked if everyone was okay, and assessed the damage to her car and mine. she mentioned something about how she was driving for doordash.. she starts asking if she should call it in, which i wasn't sure. (big mistake, i know, i now know you should always call) i told her it was her choice because i wasn't sure what to do. anyways she decided after 5 minutes of continuously asking if she should call between me and her daughter (to which i just answered every time it's her call, her daughter also said its up to her) that she would not call. i did not get her information, she did not once offer it, i gave her my number and name. she told me to go. well. saturday evening i get a call from the local PD and turns out not only has she decided to call it in, but she claims she went to the ER after and the cop on the phone said her daughter was in a neck brace when they went to the police station. i'm so stressed right now, she said everyone was fine and her daughter was even out of the car multiple times assessing the damage. i know nothing about insurance. am i gonna lose all my money??? bro
