So I just sold my truck and when I went to deposit the $1480 the atm rejected the bills and tells me to take my cash back, only to not give me my cash back and tell me my deposit didn’t go through. I was going to use this money to get myself out of some debts as I currently have nothing so I am beyond livid. Called their customer support to file a claim and am now praying it goes through. I am beyond livid and was even more so yesterday. Recently had to take out a $500 personal loan at %200 interest and borrowed $170 from a friend.

This is more of a rant than anything else but yeah.

Go (physically) into the bank during business hours and talk to a human. They will get you sorted.

    2. Just go into te bank and let them know. They balance ATM’s usually once or twice a week and if true the ATM will be off and they’ll give you the money when they next balance it.

Oof, 200% loan, that’s never a good idea. Your money is still in the ATM, the bank should be able to get this sorted for you. Sucks to deal with though, very stressful. Good luck

    4. File a claim in the bank. I had this happen with a PNC ATM (who is my actual bank) and they started a claim, and waited on the machine audit.

Don’t know if every bank does this, but PNC put the disputed amount in my account the next day, on the understanding that if the machine is not over the amount I claimed, they will pull the money back.

When they open this ATM machine, they will find and see anything stuck in it. If this ATM was at your local branch, this will be much easier for you. If it was at your local Wawa, you may have a hard time.

    6. I will never understand why people deposit cash into ATMs, especially for large sums and critical money that is needed for current expenses. this type of post is a weekly occurrence around here.

call the number on the ATM, and if its an ATM at a bank, go inside the bank and talk to them. Unfortunately, you are at the mercy of their ATM reconciliation process, which could take days or weeks.

next time you have cash to deposit, do it with a live human being at a teller in the bank, where you can physically layout the cash to count it and make sure that they are getting the same number of dollars as you are.

    7. Another reminder to GO INTO THE BANK to make deposits and for the love of god, open an account at your local credit union.

    8. Go talk to a person as soon as the bank opens. In the future, do not deposit cash into an ATM for this exact reason. Good luck, hopefully they can fix this asap.

I never trust an ATM with a deposit like that. Seriously make better choices. Walk into bank and tell them what happened.

    10. I’ve worked in the ATM industry for 7+ years. I can’t believe people risk putting so much money into a machine. Now, I was guilty of being naive prior to entering the industry. I never would count my money after withdrawals, and ATMs can short you I’ve learned.

You need to file a Reg E claim with your card holder. If you deposited at a credit union, with your CU card, and you are a member, they very likely can offer you a provisional credit while they get the claim validated.

    11. I had a repair man fixing my washer this week. I asked him how long he’s been repairing appliances, and he said 3 years with 3 years prior to fixing ATMs. His advice was never to use an ATM for this exact reason. He said it’s typically 6 months before you will see your money back.

They will determine if they have an overage for deposits and will take care of this.

    13. Go to the bank when it opens. They will open it, and the money should be stuck in the gears somewhere, or the balance will be off if they count the money in it.

    14. Sorry this happened to the OP. Good advice already.

Most of us rely on “technology” and unfortunately “technology” is not as reliable as we would like. Which is why I have most of my money at a local credit union. When “things” go wrong, it sure helps to have someone to actually talk with and help.

Just a heads up on the other side when we find extra money in the bank or less money we have to figure out what happened we can’t just go oh well. Everything must be accounted for and we can get in trouble if it isn’t. At least that was my experience as a teller. This includes working with ATMs. But rule of thumb if its super important and timely only use a person inside machines make mistakes and will put holds on checks where a person might not.

    16. Happened to me (atm ate cash) at night. i called the banks number was fortunate I’m sometype of preferred customer that gives me access to 24/7 csr. Report amount, date, time, location, I even took photos of the machine they did not ask to send the photo. They credited it for that amount. And yup it’s about similar amount as yours. Took them couple of days to reflect in my account.

    17. You never try to deposit cash into an atm commonsense now u will have to hope there are safeguards&will get your $$$ back

Go to the grocery store and get a money order , might cost you 10 bucks and then go back to your bank and deposit the money!!!

    19. I had this happen once. Took them like a day for the ATM technician to come and open it up and tally the extra cash that was unaccounted for.

    20. Had this happen, I called bank of America and they handled it right there on the phone, and credited the account until it could be verified

    21. Mars_Collective on

This has happened to me. The bank will review the camera footage and amount in the atm and get you reimbursed. It did take a few days though.

    22. Note to self: take a few more steps and go in the bank…. It amazes me that people just stick thousands of dollars in an ATM machine and get pissed off when it glitches. We all need to just slow down.

    23. That happened to me I had to go in bank branch . Then I had to go online to solve issue , customer service.
