I just called Spectrum and said I was going to leave them if I couldn't get the bill reduced. Currently was paying $144/mo for 1G – and Ting – the only other option – was going to offer $94/mo. I didn't bring up what Ting was offering (obviously do a wait and see approach) but Spectrum said they'd do a 1 year locked in offer for $54/mo for 1G. In case you haven't called these types of services yet – be aware that they will try to keep you at a discounted offer. I hope this helps some people <3

Why even pay for Internet? I’ve been using my phone’s hotspot for years with no issues..
Also keep in mind that you probably don’t need the speeds they’re saying you do. I was paying $150, plus another $50 for no data cap, through Cox for gig Internet because I was convinced I needed it. I work from home, am constantly in meetings, and have the tv on in the background all day. In the summer, my kids are home and either watching tv, on their phones, or gaming. Or all at the same time. In the evenings, the whole family is using bandwidth to do whatever. My wife and I are masters and PhD students, respectively, so are always using bandwidth in our offices for meetings, classes, tv, and research.
I dropped to their 100 tier and have had absolutely no issues. We also don’t have a data cap on the lower tier so I don’t have to pay extra for unlimited data. $50/month total.
