Do you have a link? If this isn’t adjusted for purchasing power it’s unfortunately a pretty useless statistics as it’s showing income, not wealth.

It is honestly wild that less than 2 percent of the income of the top 10 percent equals everything the poorest 10 percent makes in a whole year. That tiny slice of income that the richest probably spend on a car or a vacation home is literally the total livelihood for hundreds of millions of people. To me this shows how insane the wealth gap has become and why debates about trickle down economics feel like a joke. The idea that markets alone will somehow fix inequality is just fantasy when the base line is this skewed.
I am not saying we should strip wealth from everyone at the top but clearly policies that strengthen safety nets, raise minimum wages, and tax extreme wealth more fairly have to be on the table. When the system is so tilted that the poor are surviving on crumbs while the rich debate over which luxury watch to buy, then long term stability of society is at risk.

So income-wise the top 10% is only 50 times richer than the bottom 10%? In the world?

Need more info. I would have expected it to be a lower percentage of income given how poor the poorest 10% are. The average monthly income of Rwandans (lowest wage country) is $51 total.

That number seems wrong to me. You’re saying the top 10% are only 50 times richer than the bottom 10%?
In the world? Including third world countries?

Just for context top 10% income starts at 167k USD annually. Thats not insane, a mid career average software engineer makes somewhere in that ballpark.

I just wanna point out that 47k is roughly what you need to make to be in the global 10%.
So… That’s you. You are the rich.
Of course you people only exist to covet someone else’s money and wealth.

A 2% effective tax could double the income of the poorest 10%>

This chart is from the World Bank Poverty and Inequality Platform, referring to **GLOBAL** income.
In the US, if you make **minimum wage**, you are among the **richest 16%** of people in the world.
If you make the **average household income of $64,000** in the US, you are…. wait for it…. in the **top 1.6% richest** people in the world.
This chart is talking about us! If you make more than $22,500 annually you are in the top 10%. We are the rich fat cats. If we donate just 1.9% of our income, it’d equal to the entire income of the bottom 10%.
