I save bacon grease—why wouldn’t I? It’s like a two-for-one deal, adding rich flavor to so many dishes. The problem was it always went rancid before I could use it all. Now I pour it into a silicone mini muffin tray, which makes perfect little ‘flavor pucks’ I can pop out anytime without worrying if they are safe for my family. Has anyone else tried to do this yet? I also do this with sweetened condensed milk or canned fruit or smoothies if I didnt use it all instead of wasting it.

My cooking hack for saving bacon grease for later.

    1. Ahh, bacon – the food of the Gods. Thank you for this great tip. Hadn’t thought of using these but now I’m thinking of all the little bits and pieces of stuff I can freeze.

    2. I always filter it through a small strainer and store it in the fridge, that seems to keep it from going bad a lot longer.

Lately, though, I’ve found that a funky little country store near me sells 1 lb tubs for $2.49 and that is cheap enough to appeal to my lazy side. It’s very well filtered, so that after several months I’m approaching the end of the tub and it’s still in great condition.

I do still save the bacon grease if I make it myself, we just don’t cook it that often.

    3. I put bacon grease through an old pour over coffee cone with a filter and refrigerate. I call it clarified bacon grease. Highly suggest on popcorn, eggs, and stir fry veggies.

      Lol
I always thought it was because we were poor 🤣
Grandma did this and so did her mother, thank you for sharing to those who didn’t know 🤝🏼

    5. How were you storing it before that it went rancid? I always keep it in the refrigerator and have no problems. I just grab a metal spoon and scoop some out of the jar.
