Trump might nix America as a climate tech leader. “Chinese solar is now expanding so fast that by the early 2030s, the country will generate more power from the sun than the amount of electricity the US will consume altogether”

The US is already trailing in this regard. China has been building power infrastructure at a tremendous rate for a decade now. The standard practice is to overbuild such that capacity far exceeds demand in a given area, with the understanding that power consumption needs will very likely increase and power generation will become more diffuse. It’s a deliberate policy to yield long term gains in the transition to clean energy.
I recommend The Entrepreneurial State, by Mariana Mazzucato where she points out that all the tech in your “Smart Phone” that makes it smart was conceived by, funded and produced by the Federal Government, not Steve Jobs in his garage.
The race is already over. And his voters will complain about the US losing to China once he’s gone. But they won’t actually connect this to him. They aren’t capable of that.
China and the US are two of the very few countries still using coal fired power. Let’s not pretend either as leading green energy transition
It’s so frustrating that we need to compete against China rather than build tech because it would lead to better outcomes for the environment and our country rit large. Let’s create a culture of cooperation, not competition.
When was America ever climate leader? Most “real” Americans outside immigrant heavy states don’t believe a climate or climate change even exists.
That is because Trump has made America incredibly weak compared to what America used to be. Literally, instead of being a powerhouse, we are now a laughing stock to the world.
