If only parents/teachers/schools spent this type of quality time preparing kids for college and student loans, maybe there wouldn't be the loan crisis we have today.

Great article on preparing teens to see a doctor on their own, so WTF can't they teach kids proper skills on student loans?

    1. The adults in my life didn’t know anything about making decisions based on debt. They either made enough money to not be in debt, or struggled with credit card loans.

They did not have the mental machinery to tell me whether the $100,000 student loan would be worth it.

Honestly, as someone who works in Higher Ed, being “smart” about student loans isn’t enough anymore. You can do all the right things and have the “best” lending options, but costs at universities keep rising and so do interest rates. Subsidized loans are also going away with the Big Beautiful Bill.

We need to stop placing so much emphasis and responsibility on the students and families, and start critiquing the systems that allow this to happen. It’s like corporations trying to place the blame on consumers for climate change by using plastic straws rather than enforcing more sustainable business practices.
