So I recently went to the doctor and due to some issues I need to make changes in my life. That being said I have started making them and I am 1 month into my journey and I have stuck with it! At this point I feel like I am at a point where I responsibly say I can justify getting a membership as I’ll actually be responsible and actually go.

That being said I am still cheap and hate purchasing things for myself and this is no different .

Does anyone know what I can do to get a better price ? Would it be best to go in person to the gym and sign up there ? Would it be better for me to do a 3 day pass and then talk to someone there or do they follow up with deals if you don’t immediately sign up ?

Fellow humans please guide me on this journey of trying to get this pass at a lower rate lol

I advice getting a 24 hour fitness membership at the lowest price

Planet Fitness is just the best value gym I’ve joined and is also good for beginners.

Knowing my own exercise habits I need flexibility to go anytime

    2. Often times you get get them to reduce or waive their sign up fee. You might be able to get a discount if you pay for a year up front.

Shop around – but don’t feel bad. Gym memberships (if you use them) will save you the most money out of all the things you can spend money on.

You can’t put a price on health. It’s literally priceless.

    4. If you have Medicare check into their Silver Sneakers program. If you have Medicaid call and ask them about your extra benefits. They cover the YMCA in my area for 6 months. If neither of those Planet Fitness is the cheapest in my area. Most gyms in my area will give you a free 1 day pass to check it out. I would definitely try and get a 3 day pass if I was unsure.

I don’t know about starting cheaper aside from a promotion, however I used to go there and when I cancelled, they always offered lower rates, even if just for a few months at a time.

    6. Check if your local community center has a gym you can use. Mine is $60/year. It would be even less ($30/year) if I lived or worked in that city, but I’m just several miles in the other direction in a different city. It doesn’t have a fancy locker room or anything but the equipment works. And since the other clientele are frugal (and mainly a lot of older people) no one cares about what you’re wearing or how you look while working out.

I absolutely hate going to the gym so I spent the money to get some basic equipment for home. Don’t need much equipment to get the basic goals done

    8. My husband and I use planet fitness, it’s $25 a month for both of us. The gym is a bit bare bones but we wanted to commit for a year before we considered another gym. It’s also convenient as we travel a lot for work (we work together) and it’s nice to not have to skip our workout when we do travel.

The 24 hour fitness that I last visited was so run down, and dirty. I will never go back again. Tissues everywhere on the floor, dirty equipment, and equipment was breaking down and rusting. I don’t know what the hell happened there. It was very clean, equipped with towels, and it kind of points to a decaying infrastructure within that company. The race to the bottom, and filthy as hell.

    10. Getting a cheap gym membership is far from the worst choice you can make. Some people find it motivates them better to get moving.

That being said, a set of adjustable dumbells and a set of resistance bands is all you need and doesn’t require a membership. $100 one time payment, or $120+/year forever.

    11. I have no idea if this is a still a thing – but decades ago I signed up for the following with this gym.
      – Pay 12 months in advance
      – Get 6 months free
      – Lock in a price forever.

I’m sure they expected I will pay the full year, go twice and never show up again. What happened

      – I have used that gym off an on for almost 30 years, with many years it was my only gym so I used it frequently. I purchased a house like 5 min from a good location that I used regularly so once I had that sorted, I really started getting my value.
      – I paid the 12 months up front
      – I think they forgot to start charging me. I think I got something like an additional year free
      – When they started charging me – its $14 a month. Yes I pay $14 a month to use multiple gym locations.
      – I paused the membership during the pandemic. When I restarted it was … $14 a month.

So if you can stomach the up front payment and it works for where you spend most of your time see if you can do something like that. Over the years I have added in all kinds of fitness options. I did ClassPass, I did an employer sponsored Cross-Fit training program. I currently have the fancy Orange fitness studio… but I STILL pay that $14 a month. If I ever lose my job or hit financial issues, sure the fancy memberships will have to go… but I will have my $14 a month crappy gym.
