Good morning. I just recently PCS’ed from Fort Carson, CO to Fort McCoy, WI. I ended up having to do a full PPM and I used my GTC for the entire move. The expenses that I racked up between the uhaul and the moving boxes and the trailer for my POV was over $8400. I did my travel claim with JPPSO when I got to McCoy and it only ended up paying me $5491.

I think the weight scale messed up when I weighed full because it stated that I only moved 4000 pounds which is crazy to me. I have 4 kids and a full 4 bedroom house.

How in the world am I suppose to cover the cost of what’s left on my GTC??

    I NEED HELP

Well if you toss in the DLA should be a lot less you gotta pay off if you haven’t used it already.

    2. You use your money to pay it off. You are only authorized what the weight is, which is why one should do the math to see if it’s worth it to rent all the things vs having the government move it.

    3. You pay out of pocket. You should of gotten an estimate of payout for the PPM prior to moving. That would of told you how much to expect to receive.

    4. I agree a full 4 bedroom house is going to weigh a hell of a lot more than 4k pounds, I have three kids and a bunch of shit, no way I’d be less than 12k, but you gotta check those weight tickets as soon as they are in your hand and see if the math makes sense, and if it doesn’t, re weigh, make sure they’re no leaving off an axle or something. At this point I don’t think there’s anything you can do, though – you turned in the weight tickets. The time to fix this was when you weighed the vehicles, before you turned in your paperwork. They’re not just going to adjust it.

That’s a tough situation. As others have said, you’ll only receive reimbursement based on the weigh tickets. If they were wrong, you would have had to re-weigh on the spot. I don’t know how you could go back and “fix” that now.

Go to your GTCC coordinator (usually located in Resource Management / S-8) and ask what they can do to help you. They can sometimes extend your due date or leave you in PCS status, which prevents late fees from accruing. Then do what you can to aggressively pay it down. Someone mentioned DLA payment, and any excess funds you have should go toward paying this off. A government debt isn’t something to mess with. Create a monthly budget, cut any “fluff” from your expenses for a few months, and pay it off as quickly as you can. Once paid off, keep your current lifestyle and build yourself an emergency fund of 3-6 months expenses so that a future $3K expense doesn’t create such a hardship for you.

For anyone reading this in the future if you have no idea what you’re doing with a PPM move please go to your military transportation specialist/Personal Property Office. They have so many handouts and can help you every step of the way.

As for you OP yeah you’re kinda screwed. Luckily you should get DLA which should be around $3,000 and that will cover the difference. But Google DLA rates 2025 and a nice table will pop up and show you how much you’re getting.

How big was your truck? I did a partial PPM move last week and I filled up a 20’ moving truck (gym weights included) and it was about 4,700. While I agree a full 4 bedroom house with 4 kids is more than 4000 pounds I have a hard time believing you were able to fill it entirely in one truck.
