I purchased an EA Play subscription through Epic Games for 219.99 TL on September 11th, but Epic's payment system charged me twice for the same transaction. My bank statement clearly shows two identical charges from "EPC*EPIC GAMES STOR."
Epic Games customer service refuses to help, claiming they "cannot process this on our end" and directing me to contact EA instead. But EA cannot refund money they never received – only Epic can refund Epic charges.
My question: Should I file a chargeback dispute with my bank? Is this the appropriate next step when a merchant won't correct their own billing error?
Additional context:
- I have clear documentation (bank statement showing duplicate charges from Epic)
- Chat transcript showing Epic's refusal to investigate their billing system error
- Only received one active subscription despite being charged twice
Has anyone dealt with similar duplicate billing errors from gaming companies? What's the best approach to protect my finances here?
Epic Games charged me twice for same purchase, refuses to fix billing error – should I file chargeback?

Do you have a transcript from your conversation with EA saying they can’t help you?
This is on Epic not EA.
You have to reach out through a different route of customer service (like try social media?) and get someone competent. Sometimes the transaction on the credit bill will adjust properly (auto refund). Charging back can result in disabling your account and losing access to your games. Go through bank as a last resort
I have no direction on the dealing with a chargeback side. But be careful or read the ToS. A lot of times a chargeback gives them the ability to totally lock you out of your account.
So while my advice is “don’t let them get away with it” just be careful or have a paper trail with them that I will be imitating the chargeback for this reason so in case they do take this action you have that to fall back on. I’d hate to see you lose more than $200 in games over a $200 chargeback
If you just bought it today, then it hasn’t actually processed yet. Give it time. The duplicate charge should disappear in less than a week.
Some really dumb comments on here. You contacted Epic, got proof of them refusing to refund the duplicate, so you have everything you need.
Don’t wait- go right to your credit card company with it. Let them decide if they want to wait or take action. If you wait too long, they can tell you that you should have taken action sooner. The longer you sit on this, the more likely you are to get no resolution.
They can’t help you because nothing has happened yet. If you still have duplicate charges at the end of next week then maybe that’s something to worry about.
If it posts then you file a charge back. You don’t owe the company a call.
As a gamer I will warn you that a chargeback can cause your account to get closed. You don’t do chargebacks on Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo accounts unless you don’t care about all the games you own on there. I suspect the same is true for Epic.
I would listen to the commenters here and give this a few days to make sure it’s a real charge that will stay.
Did this just happen today?
If so, unlikely you have a “bank statement” yet. It’s possible the initial pending charge just hasn’t cleared out yet, and will drop off in a day or so.
Regardless, you have 60 days from the time your credit card statement closes (so your 60 days hasn’t even started yet) to dispute the charges. No hurry. But yes, if both charges are still there early next week, dispute.
Is this a troll post? You made the purchase today, it’s impossible for it to be fully processed and show on a bank statement that hasn’t even been issued yet. You’re just blatantly lying over a $5 USD charge.
Go ahead and try to dispute it – banks don’t dispute pending transactions. And you lying won’t change that.
Sometimes charges appear twice on statements for a couple days. One is a hold transaction and the other is the actual transaction. Your post says this happened today so I would suggest waiting a few weeks before doing anything. What is the statement date for your account?
A lot of companies that provide digital account will ban your account for doing a chargeback, so if you go down that road, be ready to possibly lose your account
Give it a few days to process in your account, it might not actually be a double charge.
