I would like to add a passphrase to my cold wallet(s) and use words from a book or written material. My thought is to pick some written material that is readily available, create a random string of say five numbers between 0-20, then use those numbers to select words from the material, eg: each number might correspond to a word of a chapter. This would only require me to remember the written material and numbers, or write the numbers down in a safe place, but not the written material title. Thoughts?

    1. Don’t make it more complicated than necessary, if you somehow forget the passphrase you’ll lose access to all passphrase-protected accounts and funds.

A strong password as a passphrase is enough. Don’t use a dictionary word. You can safely store it in a password manager if you wish as long as your mnemonic phrase is securely stored offline.

Keep in mind that adding a passphrase to your mnemonic phrase results in new addresses and keys. You need to transfer all your funds to the new addresses to use the extra passphrase protection.

    2. This is unnecessarily complicated for a passphrase. As long as you keep it separate from the seed words, you can have it readily accessible because nothing can be done without having them together.
