It’s ok guys, it’s all part of the trade negotiations and masterful tactician making from the White House! We will just grow coffee in Iowa and South Dakota! Down with all those foreigners taking our Dunkin Donuts coffee!
What’s that you said? There’s no climate in the continental USA that is able to support coffee growing?!?!? Why didn’t anyone SAY anything?!?!?!?!?

The US produces just 3% of the coffee it consumes. We physically are incapable of picking up any more. When these tariffs were first announced I thought coffee could be one of the most effective things to activate that “tarrifs are a tax on Americans” lightbulb in average people, because there’s simply no away around it on either end.
People aren’t going to consume much less than they do. It’s literally a drug.

My guy was apologetic about the price hike. I told him I understand and he shouldn’t need to apologize. It’s not his fault. Small local roaster, immigrant/refugee owned.
It’s fucked up him and his wife are having their livelihoods held in the balance of this administrations hubris.

I need a break from all this winning and greatness’s anyone else?
Real question, all of the stupid “are you tired of this yet?” GOP hard signs I had to endure during the election, are there similar ones targeted at the GOP?

That’s good for the economy. Let them rich pay for it. Especially the I can’t live without Starbucks crowd. FYI by accident I stopped injecting coffee and caffein in general.

A cup of coffee costs $0.10. Even if you are drinking a couple cups, we are talking about a quarter. Coffee prices are up because coffee supply is down, and tariffs add money too. But those add a nickel a day to your costs.
A nickel. That’s what we are going to throw a fit over? That’s the input cost issue. A nickel. No. This is not hurting anyone.

There have been some successful attempts to grow coffee in the Northern Marianas Islands and apparently it could scale up there quite nicely. There are whole uninhabited islands. But surely more expensive than just paying the tariffs.

All we need to do is grow it in the US people! Same for avocados. And bananas. And mangos. And whatever else our climate isn’t suited for. Of course, we also deported all the potential farmhands, but those patriots in the trailer parks on insulin should be able to slide themselves right in, since they’ll otherwise be off Medicaid soon enough! Also, maybe instead of Greenland we need to bring some freedom to a few tropical nations?

The measurement given is not for Trump’s term to date. Coffee up about 6% under Trump.

Coffee was up 155% under Biden.
Spare me your outrage.
