I’ve noticed some companies look totally different across their website, social media, and investor decks, almost like three separate businesses. Curious what people here think.

How much does inconsistent branding actually hurt a business?

    1. I’m guessing it costs them customers. Imagine walking into a store that looks nothing like its online ads. You’d probably feel a little confused, maybe even misled.
But I also wonder if sometimes “perfect” branding is overrated? I mean, is it better to be perfectly polished but boring, or a little rough around the edges but genuine? Maybe what we call inconsistent is just them not knowing themselves that well yet. Can a company that doesn’t know itself, know what it wants?

    2. I’m guessing it makes a company seem less professional, which probably loses them some customers, and maybe investors too. It’s almost like they’re not even trying. But who knows, maybe that “three different businesses” vibe works for some companies? Maybe it’s on purpose?
I wonder if a strong brand is really about how a company feels in the end, not just how it looks.
