I’ve noticed that since takeout has become so extremely commonplace that fast food places are now considered slower than most.

Now that even fine dining places can have takeout meals in less than 20 minutes I wonder how they’re going to compete.

The whole fast food industry was known for speed, and affordability, but both of those are now gone.

What do you think is going to happen to the fast food industry?

    1. The speed isn’t my concern it’s the prices. Fast food was traditionally significantly cheaper than “real” restaurant options. With our average fast food bill being $25-30 for the two of us it’s only a few dollars more per person (if at all) to get take out from an “actual” local restaurant.

If I can order online or over the phone and sit at home until the pick-up time then walk in, give my name and pay and walk out in a couple minutes…it’s exactly the same convenience as fast food. They might not have a drive through, but I don’t mind getting out of my car for 2 minutes.

    2. I used to like takeout, fast food, fast casual dinning. The prices escalated and as I reduced using these options I discovered it is very possible to just make a meal in less time and for less money than getting in the car and driving to a restaurant.

Now the fridge and freezer are stocked with easy to make quick and healthy meal options. And yes I still go out to eat or pick up fast food but much much less often than in the past.

Bonus is I am eating healthier.

    3. Every time I go out for fast food, the prices and quality remind me I only do it when others really want to go.

      It’s really just not great.

    4. Cream always rises to the top. People are still willing to pay for quality and service. Consider Chik-Fil-A, for example. Consider the line of cars you always find there. Consider their well-trained customer service and politeness. Compare that to your experience at Burger King or McDonald’s. True story, I stopped off the interstate once into a McDonald’s for a cheeseburger to hold me over until I reached my destination. I got back on the interstate before I unwrapped it. I had a sandwich of condiments and cheese. If you can’t remember, the recipe for “Cheese Burger” includes “burger,” your business is in trouble and your staff don’t deserve $20/hr. Folks aren’t going to pay big money for slow, low-quality food served by folks who don’t seem to care about customer service or their job.

Fast food is still 20% cheaper. Especially with a tip. And everyone knows exactly what they get with Fast Food. It’s not going anywhere.
