But I thought America was better in every way possible why care about china and how they do things?

This is essentially horrible and just adds more uncertainty, right?

From a pure investing standpoint, is there anything positive about this?

    3. Perhaps Donald Trump should just STFU and keep his nose out of private enterprise. He’s fucking everything else up and he certainly didn’t run his business as successfully.

Why the fuck would businesses take any kind of advice from a man who is clearly incapable of any kind of rational thought?

    4. Did you ever hear the statement that “CHINA IS A BUNCH OF FUCKING COMMUNISTS, SO WHY WOULD WE EMULATE THEM IN BUSINESS PRACTICES”?

    5. Only reason is it allows more fuckery on the management part and less transparency on the investor site especially retail

He’s definitely getting that Nobel prize for teaching the world economics if this gets through.

This administration only wants to deal with the bad news they have caused twice a year instead of four times

    8. Wait a minute folks. I don’t think it’s the worst idea trump’s ever had. This would make management focus a little bit longer term. Wouldn’t that be better for a corporation longer term health?

    9. Why not change it to yearly… Oh wait yeah I know what will happen. Companies report, their earnings suck and the stock drops 70% until the next report. That’s a massive improvement dumbass…

    10. That’s why no one trusts Chinese companies; it is all manipulated. US should maintain its standards, don’t follow a failure.

The 50 to 100 year view is forward-looking for accountability of management for longevity of the business, not backward looking reporting. How is he this dense?

Does he not understand how much money is made trading quarterly earnings reports?

What kind of idiot is he? If anything earning should come out more frequently for more trading opportunities…

    13. Will he come back and propose “Income tax returns should not be filed every year, it should be every 5 years or 10 years”

    14. The idea of 6 month reporting is stupid, but he’s not wrong on the last sentence… we run companies for short term gain in the US because so much of stock pricing is based on short term and less on sustainability.

    15. I dislike 99% of what this guy says but this one I agree with although I’m not sure it actually solves the underlying problem.

Anyone who has worked at a Fortune 500 company knows the company puts a ton of money time and resources into the quarterly reports themselves, and also drives so many decisions to be able to make positive statements by the time of the next report. Increasing that time would reduce those costs and allow a very slightly longer range view. Being publicly traded makes it hard to avoid the real issue though which is that short term profits are the only thing that matter because if you build a strong case for why you’re slowly building to 10 years from now, you might get a crazy PE like tech stocks or investors might all just run away to a company they think will have more meaningful gains now

He’s not wrong though. The United States does have a short term view on returning shareholder value. Management is constantly worrying about next quarters numbers.

The thing to worry about is bad actors and the lack of transparency.

    17. I don’t understand this,
It’s like he’s saying “Chaiiiiina baaaed everything, let’s follow them”

This is just a continuation of “If we tested less, there would be fewer Covid cases.”

It’s nuts how many otherwise intelligent (enough to function on a daily basis) have fallen for this idiot.

    19. Why would investors, who want to make money, want less fiscal reporting from the companies they’re invested in?….we’re truly in the dumbest timeline.

    20. Just like we need to wait 2 weeks to get paid to save the company money.

China also commits human rights abuses out the ass and bullies smaller countries, should we emulate that too?

      Oh wait ……..

    21. For how poorly he thinks of China he sure seems to be referencing their methods of operating a country quite often.

    22. One of my biggest problems with capitalism is that everything is built around next quarter’s earnings report, and it makes companies make the stupidest decisions. I’m open to other opinions, but initial reaction: I don’t hate this. This could be good.
