Expecting our first in 2026. Open enrollment for my insurance is coming up soon and I’m wondering if I should add my husband now or if I can wait until baby is here.
We’re on separate insurances right now since it’s cheaper. I know giving birth is a qualifying event so I can add baby to my insurance once here, but would I also be able to add my husband at that time?
If I add him now, it would cost an extra $925 before baby gets here.
Can I add my husband to my insurance mid year when I give birth?

You have to add him during open enrollment.
You have to add the baby.
This sounds like a perfect question for your HR/benefits team at your company…
If I may ask, what is the benefit of adding him to your insurance if he already has his own?
The birth of a child typically creates a qualifying life event and you should be able to add him. Check with HR.
