Quick story. I’m a State Trooper got crashed into on duty by some dipshit with no insurance driving a car that was unregistered, his license was suspended and he had 5 warrants. Triple threat turd. Anyways I tore my labrum in my shoulder and had to have surgery as well as getting knocked unconscious.
He had no insurance so I get 0 dollars from his insurance.
State Police insurance covered all medical bills and I still received my full pay while on medical leave.
So even on duty any crash goes through your personal insurance. I got a lawyer and filed a claim. I received 50k that was the policy max for my uninsured motorist coverage. Lawyer took his cut I got 33k. This is fine I’m not bitching about the money. However, my lawyer advised me that when we got insurance from State Farm that we signed a waiver for no stacking insurance. This was a major mistake for only 7 dollars more a month I could have stacked my wife and I’s 3 vehicles and received a much higher settlement. We now have stacking insurance lol.
My message is GET STACKING on your insurance policy’s !
Get Stacking Insurance !

Also make sure that your state allows it, there are a good amount that do not. However, inquiring about it is never a bad idea
Where stacking is not allowed, just buy higher UM/UIM limits.
