I’d say I’m a pretty careful driver, got about three years of driving experience. But then YouTube decided to show me one of those dashcam compilation videos and I realized I’ve just been lucky so far.
yeah…. I think it’s time to get one. For those who already have one, do you think it’s better to go with just a front camera or a dual or even triple setup? I’m mainly looking for something that gives the best value for the money.
Thinking about getting a dashcam worth it?

Front and rear…just in case some slams into the back of you.
We have a hatchback and still put in the rear cam. We got the extra cable to put in so it can record in parking mode, too. I think, all up, with the extra mini usb card and cable, it was about $130…but it’s worth it. The dual cam package was about $80 on sale. It’s a RedTiger brand, and we haven’t had any problems with it. Clear images, too.
For 50-100$, you just need it to be useful once to recoup 10+ time your money. If its never useful, you lost 50-100$.
Yes, its is worth it. Its a better pay out ratio than any insurance policy.
Dash cams are 1000% worth it.
You want a dash cam that will:
– Ideally cover the front and back of your car. Mine only covers the front.
– Runs when there is movement in a parking lot in case you are hit-and-run.
– Doesn’t require a subscription — you just don’t need it over a sim card that constantly gets over-written for erroneous data.
– Has a night mode.
I got hit and run, AND I got the Jeep on video–but the jeep had a deflector on their LP (illegal but people do it anyways) so there was no way for my camera phone’s camera to capture the detail. Also my camera phone isn’t as good at night when it happened, so even though I saw it, an eye witness saw it, and we Both filmed it… We couldn’t see well enough and None of us got enough ID to find the Jeep. If I ever see it on the road, I WILL know who it is, but a cheap $100 dash cam would have caught the whole thing.
