Hey everyone,
I’ve been shaving my head for a while and trying to keep the ongoing cost as low as possible. Right now I’m using a manual cartridge razor from Amazon Basics that costs about 65 cents per blade. It gives an okay shave overall, but I feel like there might be something better out there in terms of comfort, smoothness, or long-term cost. I’ll drop the link at the end so you can see which one I’m talking about.
I’m curious what other bald or close-cut folks use and recommend. I’m open to anything that’s frugal and effective—manual razors, safety razors, or even electric shavers if they’re actually worth the investment. I’ve never used an electric one specifically for head shaving, so I’d like to know if it’s a good switch or just marketing hype.
Basically, how do you shave money while shaving your head? I’m just looking to hear what people are using, what lasts the longest, and what gets a smooth result without costing a fortune.
How do you save money shaving your head? Looking for better budget options (manual or electric)

I use a safety razor made by Henson. Had a initial cost for the razor and different blades/shave soaps until I found what I liked. Blades are a very personal choice! Blades are a few pennies each. Can usually get two shaves of my face & head before I change blades.
I’ve also not had to buy shampoo or conditioner for years now, and haven’t been to a professional haircut in even longer.
I just use (in the shower) a rechargeable, waterproof, electric shaver I got off Amazon (approx. $50).
It ‘shaves’ close enough, doesn’t cause me any irritation and the replaceable heads seem to last a very, very long time.
My husband has been shaving his head with a series of Philips Norelco shavers for decades now. They have a model specifically aimed at shaving your head (Head Shaver Pro). He used to use disposable razors, but once he switched, he’s never looked back.
As an aside, save on deodorant by trimming your out hair (if you have hairy pits)
You might also look into depilatory creams formulated specifically for use on the scalp. I’ve no idea what the cost comparison is, but it may have advantages in terms of longevity over a shave.
