Went to Costco, didn’t buy the tortillas (40 pack) for $6

Then went to other grocery store and caved on buying 10 pack for $2

This stuff pisses me off… stupid move on my part.

Am I weird or can anyone relate going through this?

I know it’s small, but hate wasting $$

My wife told me to chill out ..

costco > all other grocery stores for deals

thanks in advance for responding and feel free to roast my cheap ass 😂

Frustrated over buying something I could have gotten cheaper elsewhere, anyone can relate?

    1. I usually shop at more smaller grocery stores and international stores.

I feel a lot less guilty paying extra at these places when needed. Opposed to buying at a big chain where I know most of the time they’re purposely inflating these prices for the shareholders

100% happens to me sometimes. But you gotta factor in distance driving and time spent.

And factor in the price of learning. Now you know where the best deal is. Get the good deal next time and from now on

    3. It’s not a better deal if you end up wasting a lot of it if you and your wife can’t really get through 40 tortillas.

Totally relatable lol. I’ve walked past the better deal thinking “nah,” then kicked myself later at the regular store. It’s not about the tortillas, it’s the principle. Costco really does rewire your brain for bulk math. Your wife’s right though… breathe, champ.

    5. We have a bodega near our home that sells fresh made tortillas and chicharrones for a decent price. If you’re really frugal, buy a bag of masa harina and make your own. Home made warm tortillas are so delicious.

    6. Tortillas don’t go bad. You just know for next time you need tortillas. It has happened to me.

My main shopping is Costco. Those wraps lasted a few weeks at my house, but started drying out as I was closer to the bottom. If you buy them, store them in a properly sealed container with a paper towel to keep them from getting damp, but keep them from drying out as well.

I hear you. I become over the top sometimes seeping on how many Diet Coke I’ve had 😆😆

And of the day – I think about it in hockey terms – Are you +/- in the sales game? For me I’m way ahead.

I started just buying masa, it’s pretty easy to make tortillas with it but I’ve also used it to make arepas and pancakes

    10. I just add my items to the cart of the 3 different stores I have near me and figure out the better pricing from there

    11. I also payed $2 for a 10 pack this week.. a least oj was under $4 and breakfast sausage was 2.99..

    12. You are me, my friend. Also hate wasting money but some things aren’t worth getting bent out of shape about (easier said than done). Enjoy your overpriced tortillas you bastard

    13. Yeah… I just default costco first.

I win this method way more than I lose and I save a lot of mental energy

    14. Costco-specific packaging intentionally makes comparison shopping difficult. Is it a better deal? Probably. Is it less evil than the other national stores? Sure. Is it more evil than paying 2-4x as much at the co-op? That’s up to you. 🤷‍♂️

So you’re literally fussing over $2? Yeah you need to chill. Ain’t worth having anxiety over. Live and learn for next time. Why fuss over it? Just like I won’t drive 1km to save $2 on an item.

Yes. I drive my husband a little bit batty with it. I get irritated when I buy something, and then I see it on sale within the next couple of days. Makes me wanna return it and buy the other one at the sale price. But then, that means I gotta pack one up and drop it off for return, which sometimes doesn’t even out.

When I was in my 20s, my dad bought me a book called “The Tightwad’s Gazette”, 😂🤣…  I am my father’s daughter. I am also my mother’s daughter, though too. I share plenty of quirks from both of them. Lovely quirks.

My husband tells me to chill out all the time, lol. We’re not rolling in dough, but most certainly blessed to not have to worry about a few dollars here and there. But I definitely get a lady boner when I go to buy the two pack of something, then realize it is less expensive to purchase two singles 😂)!

    17. Best to treat this type of moment as a learning experience.

Keep track of which store has the best prices on your standard food purchases. Then keep inventory, check for specials online, and take notes before leaving home.

It’s a little more work up front, but saves that frustration. Most of these choices become second nature with practice.

Costco isn’t always a better deal unfortuantely—although the good news is it’s more from other stores cutting prices (relatively) than from Costco getting more expanse, and they’re rarely a *bad* deal. Fortunately, it’s also really easy to check prices at other stores on your phone now.

(That said, in this case we’re talking about paying an extra fifty cents, so it’s probably healthy to let it go.)

Tortillas freeze very well and can be split off one by one an hour before time to cook. Large flour tortillas need a butter knife to separate them without breakage, but I pull the corn ones apart with my hands.

So, buy the big pack and freeze them, then use what you need when you need them.

    20. Yes, I deal with this all the time. I try really hard to support local businesses, but I’m also a broke, poor, struggling single mom. I needed duct tape the other day. I went to our local hardware store that is closer to my house. I bought my almost $7 roll of tape. Later that day, I had to go to Walmart for something. I avoid going there at all costs, but they are the only place in my small town where I could get what I needed. Of course I saw the duct tape, and the exact same role was $3. That’s the other reason why I avoid Walmart is because I see how much cheaper things are and then I’m upset about how much money I’ve spent elsewhere even though I know it’s for the better in the end.

    21. I try not to get too hung up on it. You made the discovery, you can learn from it. It’s not a big deal.

Also you want to spend your time and energy on the important things in life, like quality time with your wife. Life is short and you never know what happens. Be present and relish what you have, don’t waste your energy on small stuff. Like being in a bad mood because you wasted two dollars.

One guy told me that his relationship with his wife strengthened and improved vastly after he decided if he wasn’t going to remember it two years from now, it’s not important. Ie focus on the important things. He was pleasantly surprised by this discovery.

There’s also the aspect of what you’re going to look back on later in life. Building good memories and moments of connection is far more important.

    22. Well, are you going to use 40 tortillas? It’s better to get the smaller pack and use it all than get the larger pack and throw some away because you didn’t use it in time.
