So this started because I got sick a few weeks ago and just did not have the energy to do a full grocery run. I kept delaying it thinking I’d go tomorrow but tomorrow never came. Eventually I opened my fridge and realised I still had way more food than I thought. Stuff hidden behind jars stuck in corners leftovers I swore didnt exist . I started cooking with whatever random combinations I had just to avoid going out and weirdly it kinda worked. It was like a mini version of Chopped but with way more questionable ingredients . After I finally recovered I forced myself to actually track what happened and it turns out my usual habit was just forgetting what I owned then buying duplicates every single week. Rice cans frozen veggies spices everything. Not because I needed them but because I forgot I already had them. The unplanned sick week made me empty almost everything before buying more and my grocery bill dropped so hard I thought the receipt was wrong . Now I do this on purpose. Before I let myself shop I have to make at least three meals only using what I already have. It makes me think before spending plus nothing expires in the back of the fridge anymore. I swear I waste almost zero food now . I know people say meal planning is the big money saver but apparently my version is pretend you’re too tired to leave the house and suddenly you become frugal without trying.
I accidentally discovered my laziest habit is also saving me like 30 percent on groceries every month
