I got a notice in the mail stating my loans (2 separate loans of principal ~$900 each) were moved to CRI. I also received a notice that I was awarded a refund through BankMobile.

I am not in school. I graduated in 2022 and did not take out any student loans. My credit has been locked at the big 3 for about a year, and both Experian and my basic FICO reflect no student loans as of receiving this notice.

Are the CRI and BankMobile letters both scams, or is it possible wires got crossed with somebody else's FAFSA/financial aid information? What should my next steps be? I don't want to contact the wrong person, say the wrong thing, and somehow get roped into paying the $1800. My first thought was to contact the school when they reopen Monday, to see if they mistakenly billed some of my classes to a loan instead of my scholarship (not sure if that's how it works or if they could do that without me filling out tons of forms). Is CRI reliable at straightening out mistakes like this? Even if it is their mistake, I assume the burden of proof is on me that I don't owe money – what should I gather to prove I don't owe? The forms don't name a school or date of establishment for the loans, so I can't dispute anything except the dollar amount. The interest incurred is below $1, so I would assume all of this is very recent and not from 3 years ago.

Has anyone experienced the same thing recently?

    Thank you!

Mistakenly received a CRI transfer of loan notice. I don't have loans.
