I hear that in Washington US (or any of the 48 states in the US where it's legal for insurance companies to increase premiums for not-at-fault accidents [https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/posoim/comment/hcytmor/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button\]), insurance companies will increase my premium even if I'm not at fault AND even if I don't use their money just because I told them about the accident.
So many people seem to just advice to use own money to fix it up without telling them if the accident is small (ie. paint scratches).
I do have Tesla Sentry footages of the car hitting my car, the person including the face, and the license plate.
I was planning to ask my insurance company (StateFarm) but there was one reddit post saying that even just asking them about whether something is covered is treated as a 0 dollar claim and will increase my premium (https://www.reddit.com/r/LifeProTips/comments/15zdt8w/comment/jxjc0n7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button). So I'm afraid to ask my StateFarm agency about this.
What complicates more is that the hit happened in Canada while I was in BC and the hitter has a BC licence plate.
How much of this is true and what's the suggested action for minor hit and run accidents while car is parked and you have footages of the hitter?
– Still go and ask StateFarm?
– File a report to the police? If so, Washington Police or BC Police?
– Upload the footage of the hitter on reddit so people are aware of the hitter?
– Just eat it up and use my own money to fix it up and stay silent?
– etc?
So if you get minor no-fault hit and run while your car is parked, you should just eat it up yourself and not tell insurance?

If you have the person on cam, it’s not no fault. It’s their fault. Go after them
