Ok, in 2020 I was unemployed and pulled out my pension from my previous employer to hold me over. This money was earned and distributed before I moved to NY at the end of 2020. The state said I owed income taxes to them for it? I was able to defer the total payment over 3 years, I thought I was done, but just got a letter from the state saying I owe another 1500.00 approximately and it needs to be paid by Dec 16th? If I do owe legitimately, it is what it is, but I’m not understanding why I owe?
NY state taxes that are not logical?

ny taxes can be tricky, especially with pension withdrawals. consult a tax professional for clarity.
You can always call them and talk to them to answer your questions. The additional taxes could be due to something else or they could have an error on their end. Just have your returns and payments handy for when you call
I intend to talk with an accountant this week, hopefully this is a mistake.
