Hi everyone,

In my network, there are quite a few startups that are building their startups solely around marketing funnels instead of products. And the most successful ones are using character-based marketing- creating some pixar-like/animated character and really leaning into that. That reminded me of Duolingo success as well.

I thought why more brands are not using mascots/characters?

So I participated in a Cursor hackathon a month ago, won $15k 1st place cash prize, quit my job and committed to this idea full-time- and for launch we created a launch video. I spent €2000+ on it and we plan to launch soon on my and my co-foudners socials. (if you want to see it, I will add the link to comments),

Would love to hear your thoughts and what people think about extravagant launch videos but since the tool is visual I thought the launch should be visual as well.

If you are curious about the tool, here is some more info:

    1. Character-based marketing has been on an upwards trend, producing incredible results to companies advertising through consumer channels. Duolingo is the prime example.

Distribution is everything nowadays and if mascots mean better ROI on your marketing efforts, then mascots it is! 📈

    1. We are betting that more and more AI-first software companies will associate their brands with characters- they all have character built-in, why not associate it with a memorable body? 🤖

    2. The amount of online (tech/ecom/digital products) business is growing exponentially. You can one-shot a calorie tracker app or a Shopify ecommerce store with a single prompt, but everyone is using the same tools and models to do so. 🟰

This means sameness all around- that’s where a well-developed brand character can become your moat.

And personally, I am kinda done with this utopian futuristic minimalism.

    But thats me.

I spent too much on a launch video for my business, tell me if it was worth it

You nailed the thesis. Since AI has lowered the barrier to entry for building tools, Brand Equity is the only real moat left.

Two quick thoughts on the execution:

      * The Asset: Treat that €2k video as a paid ad asset, not just a “launch post.”
      * The Economics: Mascots work because they are a Pattern Interrupt. In a feed full of boring SaaS screenshots, a character stops the scroll, raises CTR, and lowers your CAC.

You are betting against “Corporate Minimalism” in an AI world. That is a high-ROI bet. Good luck with the launch.

    2. Love this direction. You’re tapping into something most founders miss brands don’t just need attention anymore, they need *emotional memory*, and characters do that better than any landing page ever could.

Duolingo proved that personality outperforms polish. So a visual product with a bold, visual launch? Makes perfect sense.

Congrats on the hackathon win and the jump to full-time. Excited to see the launch video when you drop it this space is about to get a lot more interesting.
