Should domain be associated with what i sell? I didnt find much info on this online. Most high profile brands dont associate name with what they sell, for example nike, adidas, google. And i feel like its more professional to not do it but idk.

I guess it totally depends on your business, for a new small business or niche product, having a descriptive domain can help people immediately understand what you do and improve SEO.

It’s personal preference. Personally, I decided to use a domain using my company name and not using the service I provide. I did this to maximize brand value and name recognition. This is my preferred way to choose a domain. I used mansfieldmarketing .com for a long time but changed it mansfield .us for this reason. Shorter and focuses on brand alone.

    3. it doesn’t have to be. descriptive domains can help early on because people instantly get what you do, but strong brands usually grow beyond that anyway. if you’re building something long term, a clean brand name is fine, you can always explain what you sell with your tagline and content. pick something easy to remember and spell, that matters way more than being literal.

    4. Your domain is a major part of your online presence. Sites like [linktr.ee](http://linktr.ee) or [twitch.tv](http://twitch.tv) that use clever domain combos that match their brand are more memorable than others, and people flock to what is easy to find and make valuable for them.

Every business exists because they solve a problem and the ones with sticking power do it so effortlessly we forget they are even a product (there are paper towel millionaires). So making it memorable is one piece of the puzzle that domain can influence, but at the end of the day product is still king.

I’d say as long as the domain isn’t completely misleading (cutekittenmittens.com selling chainsaws or something) then it won’t harm you and could even help if the juxtaposition of name/service is memorable in its own way.

If you’re going to be heavily dependent on eCommerce, then SEO & social are your biggest ally, so it probably behooves you to align brand/domain/online presence.
