Hello everyone, At the time of the accident, I was driving on the highway where the speed limit is 70 mph. The car in front of me was going very slow, so I reduced my speed to around 58 mph to maintain a safe distance. I did not brake suddenly or drive recklessly.
Before changing lanes, I checked my left lane and my mirrors. There was no car beside me and no car close behind. Once I was sure it was clear, I changed to the left lane and started speeding up toward the highway limit.
Moments later, a car came at a very high speed and rear-ended me. The impact was severe enough that I ended up hospitalized for 10 days.
What hurts the most is what happened after. In the police report, the other driver claimed the same story I told, but twisted it to say that I changed lanes without checking. That is not true. I did check. But I have no dashcam footage and no witnesses, so I can’t prove it.
Because of how the police report was written, the other driver’s insurance denied my claim. Even my own lawyer told me that, based on the report, I am being considered at fault. I swear on Jesus. I know what I did and what I didn’t do. I was already in the left lane and accelerating. I was not driving slow in the left lane, and I did not cut anyone off. The other car was simply over speeding.
Now I’m left with medical bills, stress, and the feeling that the truth doesn’t matter if you can’t prove it on paper. I’m only 21, and this experience has completely shaken my trust in the system. I only had liability insurance, so my own insurance won’t help either.
Now I have No car, No settlement, Medical bills, Lost work, And constant stress and trauma. I’m sharing this because I feel broken, exhausted, and scared. If anyone has been through something similar or has advice on how to survive this situation: legally, financially, or emotionally, I would really appreciate hearing from you.
