I sold a business I ran with my partner for 10 years. I was the business/strategy person and he was the business development guy.
    Since selling a few people have told me I should consult for small businesses who are trying to grow (in the field we were in). I've given some basic free advice and the owners have very much appreciated it. But I've got major imposter syndrome!
    I don't know what areas to specialise in and want to be careful to avoid anything that could be taken as financial advice. I follow someone who is a business coach/consultant in a similar field and she seems VERY polished, selling processes and procedures she has developed.
    How do you find the confidence to become an 'expert' in your field? Are these polished consultants feeling just as much a fraud as I am most of the time? My husband thinks I'm more qaulified than they are but I can't seem to work out how to present that way.

      Sounds like classic imposter syndrome tbh – you literally just successfully ran and sold a business for 10 years but somehow think you’re not qualified to help others do the same thing lol

      That polished consultant probably started exactly where you are now, just embrace being the “been there done that” person instead of trying to be some corporate guru

      Just pick what you enjoy the most and could see yourself doing even if you weren’t getting paid.

      What others feel about themselves I don’t know. And at the end of the day it doesn’t matter. Your client matters. When they are happy and see results you should be happy too.
      And maybe the “every master was once a disaster.” saying helps you too. 😉 Just get started and see how it goes.
