I am planning on buying a new gaming pc for graduating university.

I plan it on being around 500 euros but it might inflate to 570€.

Now what should be my net worth in order to justify such a spending?

I won't upgrade if for a long time and I will use 3 year old parts.

I bought my current PC in 2021 and it's great for school but it has trouble running some games I like. But the parts of this pc are actually from 2017!

    My current specs are:

    Intel 9300H
    GTX 1050(mobile)
    DDR4 16 GB(upgraded from 8 summer of 2024)

How much of my networth should I spend on a new PC as graduation gift?

    1. It seems you know you can afford it, and want it, so just get it. You don’t need anyones approval. Enjoy your new pc!

lol you sound like you’re a child. So assuming that, don’t worry about your net worth at this point. Think about how much money you have, how much you make and if you get more value out of the PC than you would $500.

    3. Try this rule of thumb to keep your spending in check: you should only spend €500 euros for a new gaming PC if you have enough left over that you can theoretically buy 2 or 3 more without negatively impacting your finances.

Eg. Do not buy a gaming PC for €500 if you only have €1000 in savings. But you can buy one wisely to last a long time after doing research ONLY if you have minimum €4000.

That way, you make sure you only spend in proportion to how much you actually have, and you check yourself before making large purchases. This way also keeps me from impulse spending. I do this rule and it’s helped me a lot. Doing this also will prevent ‘lifestyle creep’ (when people’s spending on luxury / non-essential goods equally increases with income/wealth) which can lead to debt and ruined savings.
