I got into an accident in which i got rear ended by someone. I had very quickly changed lanes while approaching a crosswalk that was safe to cross, but suddenly stopped because i thought I had seen something. I intended to just go straight, this was a last second decision. I had only been in the lane for a few seconds before I got hit. In my original description, I said i was stopped for maybe 10 seconds. I got informed that the other driver's insurance claimed responsibility… and now I feel really guilty. I feel like I was probably stopped for an even shorter time, and that I should attempt to change my initial description. All i remember was that it wasn't a long time. My car received very little damage while his was quite damaged. First ever car accident. Would changing the description change the outcome?

    Revise Original Accident Description?

    1. You answered your truthful story. You going back and revising it is just more headache. The fact that they took responsibility that quickly probably means that the statement they got from the other person very closely aligns with yours. Even if you were there for 5 seconds which is half the time you said, that’s plenty of time for someone to stop if they were paying attention.

    2. Do you feel like you cut them off? If you didn’t have enough time to get over before you braked then yeah, you probably should tell them that, but if you were completely established then it’s on them for getting too close.
