Hey, all, looking for a frugal option for my home music setup. I have been using my old 7S iPhone, playing Spotify/YouTube Music, via Bluetooth speaker. That's it, it works great for a household of one.
Now my iPhone 7S is truly dead. It's time to move to an Android device, since I basically only want to have the YouTube app (will be canceling Spotify and reconstituting playlists in YouTube).
So far I've seen tracphone or other phones (usually starting around $55-63) or smart MP3 players ($36-49 range) as the least expensive device that can download a YouTube app. Some reviews say they run hot, so I'd like to avoid that.
Would love any reviews on these types of devices, especially if you use them for YouTube music!

My dad uses those types of gadgets for that explicit purpose. He seems happy enough with it. If it’s a phone, the cell service may be crap (likely bc it’s Chinese) but the wifi is fine.
Why not just a smart speaker? Any of Google’s first party speakers or Sonos – depending on what your budget allows.
I have several Google speakers around the house, as well as a Sonos setup in the living room. Use both for YT Music. Can’t complain.
I think Spotify is worth every penny.
I think Walmart may have a $25 cricket moto g 2025 6.7″phone on sale right now. I don’t believe you have to purchase airtime for it to get it. Just know that you would have wifi only without the monthly plan though. I almost bought one for emulation games but haven’t yet.
I was going to suggest the same phone from Walmart under Straight Talk.
I actually use a Moto G for a business line and it’s a really good phone, esp. for $25.
