I’m in the process of launching my social media / digital services (I’ve freelanced on the side before), and an old friend reached out through her agency to potentially freelance for one of their clients.
We already did a discovery call, I asked about needs, scope and what they need help with. During that call, she was very focused on pricing. I said I can't just give a blind price but rather give options based on needs, because she didn't share a budget. I mentioned that once I put the proposal together, it would be helpful to briefly walk through it on a call. She said she’d prefer reviewing it over email.
Fast forward to today: I have the proposal ready. I suggested a time this week to go over it together, and she said it doesn’t work and asked again if I could just send the proposal via email. I haven’t replied yet.
So now I’m debating:
- Should I try to find another time and keep pushing for a call?
- Or is the better move to send the proposal, let them review, and follow up after?
I don’t want to be pushy, but I also don’t want to lose the prospect or get misaligned.
Curious how others handle this, especially when pricing is clearly a sensitive point.
Client wants a proposal sent by email, should I push for a call?

Send it by email, but don’t make it a dead end. Include clear options and a line like: “Happy to walk through this on a quick 15-min call if helpful.”
I run into this situation all the time. I work in SaaS sales, and price is always part of the conversation.
My advice: don’t be overly pushy with prospects, especially around this time of year. The holidays make things slow and priorities shift. Send the quote by email as requested, and in that same message ask for a date to follow up. There’s no need to specify how you’ll follow up.
Honestly, nothing bad will happen if you don’t hear back this week. Give it some time and follow up during the first week of January.
Hope this helps someone out there.
I’d maybe add x % to the proposal and in the email say you’re keen to walk through the options and then follow up with a new year discount in early January to bring back to regular pricing
