Recently applied for the Citi Strata Elite. 1 inquiry in the last 6 months, 2 in last 12 months (using Experian, which is what they pulled). 800 score, no black marks, etc. the usual stuff. When I applied, I sort of expected a decline due to the inquiry (since they are inquiry sensitive) but the reason I got was "Insufficient length of credit history" which was a surprise.

For context, I have many accounts (10+) opened and maintained over 9 years. The only potential reason I can think of is that my "average age" is 3 year 2 months.

However, I have held 2 Citi cards before (Citi AA business which I closed and a currently-opened Citi AA Mileup).

Is this some sort of generic message that they give to be vague? Is this another way of telling me that I have too many inquiries, or would they have just said that?

I've done the whole recon dance to no avail so I am ready to give up, but if it were just inquiries, I could wait until they fall off. If they tell me the length is not sufficient, I don't really know how long to wait until it's considered long enough…

Many on this sub like to say that they have to give you *a* reason, but not necessarily *the* reason.

    2. Same issue here. Also some BS about a lack of installment or mortgage history. I don’t feel like taking out a mortgage or loan to get approved for a credit card. That being said, there is some blurb like that when I check my credit report. My other guess is that the denial could also be due to a copy and paste from my credit report that lists lack of installments as a negative on an 800+ score.
