Our Tesla has a windshield cracked but I cannot find a point of impact. We have an appointment with Tesla next week. If they cannot find a point of impact, it may be covered under warranty. But if they do find an impact, I’m on the hook for the $1,500.
I don’t want to open a claim today (Progressive Auto) in case it gets covered by warranty. But I also want to get my windshield repaired on the day of my appointment.
Am I good to just get it replaced, pay for the repair, and then Progressive just reimburses me?
Can I file a windshield claim after I get my windshield replaced?

have to let the insurance inspect it first if you want them to pay for it. i highly suggest you tell tesla to stop asap if its something they wont cover and then call insurance to file a claim
Yes, you *can* file a claim, but your insurance company has the right to inspect the damages and there’s nothing to inspect if the repairs have been completed. I would anticipate it being denied if you file the claim after the replacement.
How much does the windshield cost?
Perhaps you shouldn’t file a claim, and just pay for it out of pocket.
Anything under 1k is well worth paying out of pocket with today’s insurance rates. For $500 more, if you have the means, it would be worth paying out of pocket.
You’d have to let them inspect it first. I wouldn’t file a claim over $1500
This could be depending on your insurance company, but you may be able to file after vehicle repairs have been completed. It’s not our preference, but I see it a lot.
When I did a stint in our company’s glass department people would frequently submit a claim for reimbursement, typically it was a Tesla.
Not preferred to do a reimbursement, and not all companies may accept them, but, for us at least, they happened.
