    1. Unsurprising and largely explains the political climate today. If a few rich donors are able to provide all the funds a candidate needs to monopolize the airwaves and advertising, then of course we’ll have a government that’s only really responsible to a few rich donors.

It’s “free speech”, but when money is speech then really only rich people have it, they are a bullhorn to drown out other voices. And to make it even worse these same few rich donors also own legacy and social media companies and control the messaging on those platforms.

    2. Americant’s on reddit: “Noooo, UZA is *NOT* a third world shithole country! It really is not!… NO! nononononoNO” while angrily stomping in the floor.

To me the most pressing issue the Democratic party has to come to terms with, if they ever find themselves in a position of power, is to sever the link between the representative process and the donor class. The harm citizens united has unleashed on the health of the republic is tremendous.

The very fact that one man was able to spend 200 million dollars in PA or WI to try and sway the election to its side is damning. Same for the link btw corporations and politicians : when all restrictions break loose, you end up in situations where an aspiring autocrat is doing Chevron’s bidding in Venezuela to the detriment of the general interest.

And if it requires to pack the court, so be it. They have basically relinquished any consitutional authority anyway by granting immunity to a wanna-be king and tearing down insitutional guardrails with coward shadow docket rulings.
