I think I told my car insurance company a long time ago that I installed a tracker for theft protection but I was thinking about it and I don’t think it was installed. I bought it as an add on but thinking about it I don’t think I ever went to actually get it installed. I know that sounds dumb. What could the repercussions be if I called my insurance and told them I don’t have it?

I made a mistake and told my insurance company I have a tracker for vehicle but I realized I don’t

    1. You would just lose any discount they are giving you for it. The alternative is you have a claim where your car is stolen and they decline to cover it because you misrepresented yourself by saying you had a tracking system installed when you did not.

    2. It would reduce the discount. You can tell them you no longer have the tracker and was updating the policy

They will likely just re-rate you with a policy that doesn’t have a discount applied, assuming you have some sort of premium decrease from having a tracker installed.

It’s likely it would only have been found out if your vehicle was taken and you were then unable to use the alleged tracker to find it.

Honestly, not a huge deal. But you may as well report it now or at renewal.

    4. Just call them and tell them it’s been removed so they can remove the discount from your policy.
