The DOE announced a major $2.7B investment over the next decade to rebuild and secure the U.S. nuclear fuel supply, specifically targeting domestic enrichment of LEU and HALEU. This is aimed at reducing reliance on foreign uranium sources, supporting the existing fleet of 94 reactors, and enabling advanced reactors going forward. Three companies received $900M each to expand enrichment capacity, with two focused directly on HALEU, the fuel required by many next-gen designs. ($OKLO’s Aurora)
