Hello!

I'm relatively new to credit cards, and am looking to get my second credit card! I have had a Discover It for about a year and 2 months and am ideally looking for a no AF, no FTF credit card that I can use to get points for travel.

    • Current card:
      • Discover It $2,000 limit, October 2024
    • FICO Score (Experian): 768
    • Oldest account age: 5 years 5 months
    • Chase 5/24 status: 0/24
    • Income: $70,000

Good Catch-All Card that earns points for travel?

    1. If you can get into Navy Federal, their Flagship card is 3X travel and 2X everything else. No FTF.

Wells Fargo Autograph, Citi Strata, or either US Bank Altitude card. You didn’t provide your spending profile, so take a look at those cards and see which matches your spending pattern the most.

There are cards that technically have an AF but net out to zero or negative effective AF via their credits. This only works, however, if you already consistently spend money on things the credit could go towards.

For example, the BoA PR has a $95 but offers a $100 airline incidental credit that is easily possible to use on flights via workarounds for AA or United. So if you already regularly spend $100 on AA or United each year, that’s an effectively -$5 AF.

No annual fee and no foreign transaction fees and earns transferrable travel points? Capital One Savor and Wells Fargo Autograph are probably your only options.

    4. Do you have access to USAA or are you a member of AAA?

USAA has one called the Preferred Cash Rewards Visa Signature® Credit Card that’s a base 1.5% cash back on everything, with no FTF and no annual fee. Not a high earner, also no need to keep track of any categories either.

AAA has their AAA Travel Advantage Visa Signature® Credit Card with no FTF and no annual fee. Has various cash back percentages based on category: 5% gas & EV charging, 3% travel & restaurants & grocery & AAA purchases.

Edit: and only once I post my comment do I see you mention wanting points for travel. My apologies, I missed that part. I’ll leave these up in case anyone else who might find them helpful, but these don’t really cover OP’s needs.

OneKey+ issued by Wells Fargo for Expedia. It gives you 3% on gas, groceries and dining plus 2% on everything else. It has a $99 annual fee but you get $100 credit on Expedia each year to offset that. No FTF. The only catch is the points can only be used on Expedia. But that covers your travel requirements.
