Recent motorcycle accident location: Southern California Orange County

So sadly on December 22nd I was in a pretty nasty accident. A woman decided to make a last minute right turn from the middle lane and I collided into her. Bike was totaled and I had to go to the hospital for blunt force trauma to the chest and stomach. Thankfully nothing was broken but I suspect I will need physical therapy for awhile. Now im just struggling slightly with how it all works. Because due to the severity I wasnt able to exchange information like you normally would in a fender bender. Police made a report and she admitted 100% fault, but i have no idea how this all works. My claim representatives have been slightly helpful but very vague and dont seem to respond to my messages for updates. I was given the estimate for my bikes loss, but no news about injuries and wage loss. I would look into the policy myself but its technically under my mother's plan as she got me a good deal on insurance so im unable to look into the policy myself. For context ive had to go to the urgent care twice and a regular doctor for pain medication all of which I paid with my own health insurance. I guess im just kind of lost on how long this process takes and what im supposed to be doing in the meantime? Ive submitted all the paperwork they've asked for such as medical bills (that ive received so far) and pay stubs. But it just seems very slow and I havent been given an update on the other person's insurance. For the record the police did say she had insurance so I know that at least. Ive heard online I should hire an attorney but my family has seemed against it and I don't want to complicate the process further or make it more expensive than it already is. Anyone have any guidance? Im healing up but im in a lot of pain and its frustrating especially trying to go back to work. Anyone who had a similar situation? Id appreciate the feedback!

    1. I’m sorry you’re going through this. I highly suggest getting an attorney you trust to make sure you maximize your claim given the seriousness of your injuries and potential long-term impact. The insurance carriers can’t be trusted to do right by you and won’t without representation. We typically do not submit demands until treatment is complete but timing depends on a variety of factors. The process can take many months – again depending on many factors. This isn’t something to take lightly and your focus should be on healing instead of the claims process which is why I highly recommend an attorney.
